Ending World Poverty

I was listening to NPR again yesterday. (I know, it makes you want to steal my car stereo, doesn't it?!) On the Diane Rhems Show, she had Peter Singer as a guest. Mr. Singer wrote a book (well he's written several, but in this case...) "The Life You Can Save." The book was about how we can end world poverty. As in hunger, curable/controllable disease, cleaning water..... In this book he makes a suggestion for minimum donations that, if donated to the right places, would end world poverty (If everyone that lived comfortably donated). For example, if you make less than $105,000, you should donate AT LEAST 1% of your income to an organization that uses AT LEAST 85% of your donations toward this cause (no more than 15% can go back into the organization to pay salaries and such). 1% That's not a lot to ask. If you're interested in seeing the break down of his suggested donations, you can click HERE. If you are interested in finding an organization that you can donate to to work towards this goal, click HERE. I know that it is damn near impossible to get this kind of movement up and running. I don't anticipate seeing an end to world poverty in my lifetime. It's nice to dream though! Just something to think about for today.

Toddler Insomnia?

Cute little Eva does not like to sleep. Sometime I check on her when I am going to bed and she is sitting there quietly playing. Sometimes she cries in her bed when it's dark. (If I let her go, she will keep crying for half hour... that's as long as I've been able to stand it.) Sometimes I hear her wandering around the house at night. Also the girls share a room and the last couple weeks, Eva's sleep habit have been rubbing off on Naiya. I put my girls to bed around 8. Although sometimes she goes right to sleep, it usually takes her at least 30 minutes until she is out. They wake up between 6:30 and 7. IF (and the "if" is not due to a lack of trying) she naps during the day it's only for an hour or so. That means at best she would be getting 12 hours of sleep, but it's probably more like 9 1/2 to 10. Not enough!! We all know that not enough sleep for baby equals cranky/moody baby. We know that not enough sleep for mommy equals cranky mommy too. Any advice? Is toddler insomnia even a thing?
BTW- Do you think I'll still be calling her a baby when she is 13? ;)

The Saddest Thing EVER!

If you feel like you need to cry today, read the story on THIS LINK.
I read this story and couldn't believe it. My heart aches for these girls. I would like to say that I believe in castration in cases like this.
